Welcome to PASB

Hello Hummingbirds!
Welcome
Welcome to the Performing Arts School on Broadway, home of the Hummingbirds! At PASB, our mission is to prepare all students to create their future by pairing rigorous academics with performing arts through an educational approach rooted in innovation, imagination, and intention. We believe that the performing arts will inspire a love of learning and teach skills in creativity, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership. We believe students prepared in this way will find success in their chosen path and become the leaders who change the world!
How far we’ve come!
Looking forward to a new school year, it is worth looking back at how far we’ve come! The 2024-2025 school year at the Performing Arts School on Broadway was impressive by many measures. We began the year celebrating our School Performance Framework rated at the highest level by the Colorado Department of Education. We also celebrated the accompanying success measured by student test scores and post-secondary accomplishments.
Our students worked on social-emotional learning skills through a performance of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and acting workshops from the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Students wrote original productions and directed one another in one act plays. Students had rich learning experiences in science with visits to Dinosaur Ridge, the Museum of Nature and Science, and the Denver Zoo. Students found themselves lost in literature in book clubs and musicians created original works in our new Digital Music Studio.
As is tradition at PASB, some of our proudest moments occurred on the MAC main stage with our plays, showcases, and musicals. This year, our tech theater department built the largest set pieces in our school’s history. Our high school production of Mamma Mia! was our most ambitious show yet and the middle school production of High School Musical Jr. showcased talent equal to any middle school across the state.
Find You Light at PASB
One thing you might notice when you watch young people perform is the tendency for actors to stand toward the back of the stage. Many inexperienced performers find it difficult to be “center stage” and often that means they are literally (if not also figuratively!) “in the dark!” Light cues are programmed in specific ways, and it is essential that actors stand on their “mark,” recognize where the light is, and proudly and confidently perform in that space. Lighting technicians are trained to skillfully project light onto the stage in the place where it will make the most impact. For both performers and technicians, finding your light means finding your passion, fulfilling a role, and doing a job well. To create a successful production, cast and crew must work together to ensure that the audience “sees the light” of the show.
This year at PASB, we will “find the light.” We will ask students to “find their light,” and as a staff, we will “find our light.” Our students will continue to grow in their performance skills and literally practice “finding their light on stage.” The metaphor of “finding your light” goes much further than stage performances in that we need students to find their passions, be in the right place at the right time, share their light with others, and gain confidence that will carry them through school and the rest of their lives.
If you’re ready to “find your light,” collaborate with peers, take risks, be creative, and be a part of a community unlike any other, then we welcome you to the PASB Nest!
Thank you for joining PASB for another exciting season of learning, growth, risk-taking, and performance. This year, I hope you “find light” in a new way and have an incredible season!
Break a leg!
